Cabinetry is the backbone of how a space works — when it's done well, you stop noticing it, because everything is simply where it should be.
At Black Birch, we design and build cabinetry and millwork for kitchens, baths, and rooms throughout the home — vanities, built-ins, bookcases, bars, and the trim that ties a room together. Some projects are fully custom; others start from our own designs and adapt to your space, materials, and budget.
Because we're a working shop and not a catalog reseller, we can solve what stock cabinetry can't — an awkward corner, a wall that isn't level, a run that needs to read as one clean line. We measure the actual space and build to fit.

The best millwork rarely starts with a finished drawing. It starts with a conversation — about how a space is used, what's frustrating about it now, and what it could become.
As a design-build shop, Black Birch handles the entire arc under one roof: we design the work, build it, and install it. There's no handoff between the designer who imagines a piece and the fabricator who has to interpret it — the people drawing your project are the people making it.
That continuity matters. A detail that won't hold up gets caught early, and when something needs to change mid-project, we adjust quickly. One team, one point of contact, accountable from first sketch to final install.

About Black Birch Creative
Black Birch Creative was founded in 2017 by Thomas Tietjen, a classically trained realist painter who worked as a professional artist for over fifteen years. Thomas has been building furniture and renovating spaces his entire adult life.
Our shop is based in the historic Humphreys Street Studios, where we have the privilege of working alongside some of Boston's most talented artists and craftspeople.
Design, craftsmanship, and attention to detail are the hallmarks of our work — and we take pride in bringing artistry and integrity to every piece we build.
Over the years, we've built lasting relationships with the clients, designers, and contractors we work with, and we value those friendships as much as the work itself.
